Facility relocates to Archdale, NC next month

November 9, 2010

ARCHDALE – Expecting to employ between 60 to 70 people in its first year of operations, Council Bluffs, Iowa-based Future Foam Inc. will relocate its operations from Hickory to Archdale next month, the Randolph County Economic Development Corp. announced on Monday.

The company, previously code-named Project Darr, will relocate to the 285,000-square-foot former Rose Furniture facility at 3803 Comanche Drive in the Archdale Industrial Park. Rose Furniture closed the facility, which employed about 65, in June 2007 before the company went bankrupt, according to Bonnie Renfro, president of the Randolph County EDC.

“Future Foam is a great addition to our community and they will find a willing work force,” Renfro said.

The company will invest $2.4 million in machinery and equipment in the new operation that will supply the furnishings, bedding, automotive, construction and home improvement material sectors. The project will create 25 new jobs and relocate the Hickory operations to accommodate growing demand for Future Foam’s products.

According to the Randolph EDC, the project was made possible by a Building Reuse Grant from the North Carolina Rural Center of $195,722. Grant funds will be used to make permanent renovations to the vacant facility to meet Future Foam’s requirements and must be matched by the building owner and the city of Archdale and Randolph County.

“We are delighted to welcome Future Foam to Archdale,” said Archdale Mayor Bert Lance-Stone. “They bring needed jobs and investment to our community and new life to one of our largest buildings. It is great news for our people.”

The Archdale City Council, on behalf of Project Darr, applied for the grant. Archdale and Randolph County committed $10,000 each toward the grant match, and building owner J.L. Darr and Sons will fund the remaining match to complete the renovations.

“Randolph County has always supported economic development and offered a business-friendly environment for new companies,” said Darrell Frye, vice chairman of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners. “We are glad to partner with Archdale and the N.C. Rural Center to bring new jobs to our area.”

The Archdale location will allow Future Foam, founded in 1958, to be closer to its High Point foam manufacturing plant. The Comanche Drive plant will operate as a fabrication and warehouse facility.

Future Foam is accepting applications for employment through Debbie’s Staffing at 2607 Holly Hill St., Suite B, Burlington. Debbie’s Staffing can be contacted at 227-2119.
