Economic incentives on commissioners’ agenda

ASHEBORO — Major economic incentives are scheduled to be considered for SouthCorr Packaging and Petty’s Garage during Monday night’s meeting of the Randolph County Board of Commissioners.

SouthCorr wants to invest more than $8.5 million over five years to expand the facility and add state-of-the-art equipment to streamline production of corrugated sheets for boxes. The Asheboro company is asking for $190,000 in incentives to be equally divided by the county and the City of Asheboro over the five-year period. It’s projected that SouthCorr would add 22 jobs in two years with an average wage of $36,200.

Petty’s Garage of Level Cross has plans to invest $2,415,000 in its automobile custom modification and restoration enterprise. The request is that the county seek a $200,000 grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation for the project, which is expected to add 35 jobs paying an average of $46,000.
The commissioners will also be asked to schedule public hearings for Sapona Plastics and for code name Project Mighty. Sapona plans to purchase the former Luck’s plant in Seagrove to expand its production capabilities and add add some 25 jobs. Project Mighty officials are asking to move its joint public hearing with the City of Asheboro to March 20.
